How To Fix A Dell Laptop Key - The repair methods remain largely the same whether you are trying to fix a Dell laptop key or a key on any other keyboard. Choosing the most suitable keyboard repair method depends on the type of keyboard damage that has occurred.

• Fall Key Cap and Key Retainer

1. Find the key cap and retainer that have fallen off.

2. Snap off the cap on another key but make sure the retainer remains connected.

3. Observe how the retainer under the key cap that you unsnapped is positioned and how the 4 points connect to the rest of the keyboard. This will tell you how you need to place the retainer that had fallen off.

4. Position the retainer to mimic the retainer that is fixed correctly on the other key.

5. Place the keycaps on both keys so that they are in the correct place on the keyboard. You must gently press down on the keycaps until they click into place on the keyboard.

• Fallen spacebar

1. Use a flathead screwdriver to pull the spacebar bracket away from the spacebar cap.

2. Attach the bracket to the keyboard with the hooks underneath (the hooks attach to the keyboard base).

3. Place the spacebar on top of the spacebar bracket and press down. You'll know it's secured to the mount when you hear it click into place.

• Lost Key

1. Try to buy the matching parts if the original parts are lost. If you can't find the right parts in your price range, you can try replacing the key with another key on your keyboard.

Select the key you want to use as a replacement. You may want to use one of the "Alt" or "Ctrl" keys because the keyboard has 2 of them.

Remove the spare key from its original place by gently pulling on it.

Lift the key bracket away from the keyboard, but do not remove it completely. Make sure the 2 connectors on the back remain attached to the membrane underneath.

Slide a pointed object under the membrane to lift it off the keyboard.

2. Add glue around the edges of the membrane on the bottom.

3. Glue the membrane to the new location where you want to place the key.

4. Place the holder on the membrane.

5. Attach the keycap to the top of the bracket by pressing down until you hear a click.
